A Sierra Leone where every child and youth has equitable access to quality, inclusive education in safe, supportive, and resilient learning environments, empowering them to shape a sustainable and prosperous future.
To improve educational outcomes and access across Sierra Leone by mobilizing youth leadership, strengthening teacher capacity, engaging communities, and fostering collaborative partnerships that create safe and supportive schools for all youth and children.
1. Equity: We believe every child, regardless of background or location, deserves quality education. 2. Collaboration: We achieve more by working together with communities, schools, and partners. 3. Youth Leadership: We invest in young people as drivers of change and innovation. 4. Integrity: We are accountable, transparent, and ethical in all our actions. 5. Resilience: We build systems and mindsets that adapt and endure. 6. Stewardship: We care for our environment and use resources responsibly.
IF we improve educational quality through direct mentorship, empower youth, create green learning spaces, and advocate for rights and health, THEN children will learn more effectively, youth will gain employable skills, and communities will become more resilient, BECAUSE we address both academic development and holistic well-being through direct support and systemic advocacy, LEADING TO improved learning outcomes, reduced unemployment, stronger communities, and a generation capable of leading Sierra Leone toward a just and prosperous future.
SLEA's operational model is defined by ACTIVE principles: 1. Advocate: For policies and resources that support quality education and youth development. 2. Collaborate: With government, NGOs, community groups, and the private sector. 3. Train: Build the capacity of teachers, youth, and community volunteers. 4. Innovate: Implement practical, hands-on programs like school gardens and skills workshops. 5. Volunteer: Mobilize a network of dedicated youth and teacher volunteers. 6. Evaluate: Use robust Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL) to ensure impact and adapt our work.
1. Direct Reach: Benefited over 1,200 individuals (children, teachers, youth). 2. Environmental Action: Planted over 1,000 trees on school grounds. 3. Educational Support: Distributed 2,000 "Good Choices" books and student packs to remote schools. 4. Community Mobilization: Built a network of 15+ dedicated volunteers across schools and communities. 5. Partnerships: Successfully registered with government institutions (like, MBSSE, BDHRC, Bombali district council, Makeni city council, Ministry of Social welfare), and partners with schools, international organizational (like, Acumen heaven, and Elevation Networks).
1. Infrastructure: Lack of a dedicated training center and office space limits program delivery and sustainability. 2. Core Funding: Heavy reliance on member contributions; need for sustainable funding for administrative costs and program scaling. 3. Technical Resources: Need for enhanced teaching equipment, digital tools, and program materials.
SLEA is committed to transparency and impact. We employ a comprehensive MEAL Framework to: 1. Systematically track our progress and results. 2. Evaluate the true impact of our programs on beneficiaries. 3. Ensure accountability to the communities we serve through feedback mechanisms. 4. Continuously learn and adapt our strategies for maximum effectiveness.
